Praying the Mysteries of the Rosary

The Mysteries of the Rosary add new layers of meaning to this prayer.

20 Mysteries

The Mysteries of the Rosary help us walk with Jesus and Mary through the various events of their lives.

They are divided into 4 categories: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious. Each of these categories has 5 mysteries, the same as the number of decades or groups of beads.

How to Pray the Mysteries

At the beginning of each decade, the mystery is announced, followed by a short pause for reflection. For those who pray a scriptural rosary, a Bible passage is read before each bead.

Which Days?

Traditionally, we meditate on specific mysteries of the rosary on different weekdays. The reason for this is so that we pray all of them at least once per week.

  • SUNDAY – Glorious
  • MONDAY – Joyful
  • TUESDAY – Sorrowful
  • WEDNESDAY – Glorious
  • THURSDAY – Luminous
  • FRIDAY – Sorrowful
  • SATURDAY – Joyful

CREDITS

The LOGO image of Our Lady of Grace is original artwork by Martin Lariviere in 2009. We have the artist’s permission (my son). It is our exclusive trademark logo image.

A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.

Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.

Carl Heinrich Bloch painted The Twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple circa 1834-1890.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau painted The Virgin with Angels in 1900.
