BIO OF SAINT PAUL

The Feast Day of St. Paul the Apostle is June 29th
& the Feast Day of his Conversion is on January 25th.

Saul of Tarsus (5-67) became Saint Paul the Apostle after his conversion.  He was of the Jewish faith and presided over the persecution of Christians. Saul oversaw the stoning of Saint Stephen, the first martyr. Then he travelled on the road to Damascus to seek out more Christians. On the way there, he encountered the Risen Jesus and was blinded.  After his Baptism, healing, and conversion, St. Paul began missionary work. His letters contain the earliest records of the early Church and are part of the New Testament.  His canonization was pre-Congregation. *

*To declare a saint, proofs of holiness are investigated. In pre-Congregation years (before 1588), it was the role of the local bishop. By the late 11th Century, councils looked after it. In 1634, Pope Urban VIII made it the role of the Apostolic See. Pope Sixtus V established the Congregation of Rites in 1588. Pope Paul VI (1969) and Pope John Paul II (1983) reorganized it. It is now the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

and he said, “Who are you, Lord?”

and he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting; but rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”

Acts 9: 6-7

Some Thoughts

If we could filter out all other sounds of everyday life, we would realize something. At every moment, and in different languages, people are praying the Rosary in a beautiful song of love and hope.

We can experience both great and small moments of conversion when we open our hearts to God. It is never too late to experience God’s mercy in a life-altering way.
