Pope Francis recommends the simple prayer on our prayer card. His grandmother taught it to him. It is from the Litany of Humility (Rafael Cardinal Merry de Val, 1865-1930) in the Roman Breviary. The original translation was: “Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.”
The Holy Father prayed it with those at St. Peter’s Square after the midday Angelus (June 7, 2020). He suggested that when we focus on a passage of the Gospel, to notice the message of love. It is at the center of every gesture and word of Jesus. It is the love of the Father who sent His Son and the love of the Holy Spirit within us. We can also experience this love by adoring the Blessed Sacrament. Then, little by little, our hearts will learn to imitate the Heart of Jesus. We will become more patient, generous, and merciful.
It is a beautiful prayer we can say after receiving the Eucharist. We can also pray it during Adoration or anytime. It is an ideal gift for First Communion, R.C.I.A., or anytime.
