Benefits of Handmade Wire-Wrapped Rosaries
What are the benefits of handmade wire-wrapped rosaries? Are there drawbacks?
Are Wire-Wrapped Rosaries Really Better?
Wire is wrapped around the core strand that passes through the beads. Does it make rosaries better?
A New Rosary Design
You may have noticed a rosary design if you have been shopping online. Artisans describe this type of rosary as unbreakable, heirloom, or wire-wrapped. They often claim that they will outlast all others. You may wonder how true this is.
The Benefits of Wire-Wrapped Rosaries
The Core Benefit
The core benefit is that they will not come unhooked at the connections. The wire is wrapped around the core strand that passes through the beads. It makes the links secure without soldering or casting.
More Space Between the Beads
Another benefit is that the rosary is easier to handle. It is more comfortable to hold onto the beads since it adds extra space between them. Even a wire-wrapped rosary with smaller beads is easier to manage. That extra space adds to the overall length of the rosary.
A Sturdy Design
They are generally sturdier. Children can tug on them, and they will remain intact. They will stand up to more wear and tear than most other rosaries.
This type of rosary can also support heavier beads. The wrapped loops hold the components securely in place.
The Drawbacks of Wire-Wrapped Rosaries
Kinking
They will kink at times as a result of the structure. The rosary can seem stuck or bent. Generally, shaking it gently or lifting and turning the section will fix this.
More Costly
Compared to linked rosaries, they take at least twice the wire and time to make. As a result, they cost more than other rosaries.
Does This Mean That a Classic Linked Rosary Is not Sturdy?
The Source of Its Strength
Are classic chain and wire rosaries weak or strong? The answer lies in the wire’s strength and the artisan’s skill. Our classic linked rosaries are sturdy because of the heavier wire we use. Also, our loops are round with minimal markings on them.
A Unique Feature
What is unique about our classic-linked rosaries? They have a wrapped component as well. We wire-wrap the Our Father beads on most of our wire and chain rosaries. It secures the caps and makes them feel different from the other beads.
Wire-Wrapped Component
Wire-wrapping the Our Father beads makes them easier to notice during prayer. Even while praying with closed eyes, it is easier to feel they are not part of the grouped Hail Mary beads.
Our Wire-Wrapped Rosaries
Which Beads We Wire-Wrap
We wire-wrap gemstones, crystals, hematite, and some glass beads. It adds extra security for precious or heavy beads.
Wrapped Bows
Wrapped bows have a loop on each side with a row of stacked wire in the middle. We sometimes use them to attach beaded sections to the connector loops instead of jump rings. They will do the extra work necessary to secure a heavier rosary.

IN REVIEW
Wire-wrapped rosaries have advantages and disadvantages
- Links will not come unhooked.
- These rosaries are easier to handle because the extra wraps add space between the beads.
- They are generally sturdier and will support heavier beads.
BUT
- They tend to kink and need a gentle shake or lift and turn to straighten them.
- Wire-wrapped rosaries cost more than those with classic links because they take more wire and time to make. This is especially noticeable in sterling silver rosaries.
