Crucifix Cleaning Tips
We recommend furniture polish or oil soap to clean the wood.
How to Clean The Wood
We do not use stains on our Crucifixes to alter their natural shade. We add a clear, protective finish that reveals the natural tones and grains of the wood. The colour you see is its genuine, untouched beauty.
Furniture polish or oil soap is the best product for cleaning the wood. Dry well with a polishing cloth.
How to Clean the Corpus
If the Corpus of Jesus isn’t completely sealed, it may have a bit of green oxidation. It’s not mold but a reaction of the exposed inner metal with the air.
First, clean it with a little toothpaste and a damp toothbrush. Then rinse it off with a damp cloth and let it completely air dry. Then, you can protect it with a few thin layers of a sealant like Clearcoat. Note that drops of clear coat on the wood can make the smooth finish on the wood uneven.
Where You Hang a Crucifix Matters
Choosing where to hang your Cross or Crucifix matters. Be sure to hang it away from heating or air conditioning vents. They could dry out the wood and cause permanent damage. It is best to choose a place out of direct light to hang your walnut Crucifix. Walnut will fade in bright sunlight.
