Holy Spirit Novena: Fourth Day
MONDAY
Begin with the Sign of the Cross.
Fortitude
By the gift of Fortitude, the soul is strengthened against natural fear and supported to the end in the performance of duty. Fortitude imparts to the will an impulse and energy which move it to undertake the most arduous tasks without hesitancy, to face dangers, to trample under foot human respect, and to endure without complaint the slow martyrdom of even lifelong tribulation.
But he who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 24:13)
Prayer
Come, O Blessed Spirit of Fortitude, uphold my soul in times of trouble and adversity, sustain my efforts after holiness, strengthen my weakness, give me courage against all the assaults of my enemies, that I may never be overcome and separated from You, my God, and greatest Good. Amen.
Tip
You can start on the second bead of a rosary decade to count the final prayers.
- Our Father
- Hail Mary
- Glory Be (7 times)
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
VERSION 1:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among* women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
*or “amongst”
VERSION 2:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.
Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.
Juan Bautista Maino painted a scene from Pentecost circa 1615 to 1620.
We cropped a Pompeo Batoni painting of the Holy Spirit from circa 1740 to 1743.
