About Holy Face Items

History

Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus is one of the oldest Christian traditions. It began with two miraculous events. First, the image of Our Lord appeared on St. Veronica’s veil when she offered to Jesus while He carried His Cross. Secondly, His image also appeared on His burial cloth, known as The Shroud of Turin.

Official Catholic Devotion

The devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus is recognized by the Catholic Church.  Two popes approved this devotion: Pope Leo XIII (1895) and Pope Pius XII (1958).

14-Bead Holy Face Chaplet

The fourteen beads of the Chaplet of the Holy Face of Jesus remind us of the number of stations on the Way of the Cross. We pray it while gazing at an image of the Holy Face of Jesus. The prayer that we repeat on the beads is, “Let the light of Your Holy Face shine on us and in Your mercy save us.

19-Bead Corona of the Holy Face

The Corona of the Holy Face is based on the revelations and prayers of Sister Marie de St. Pierre. She received a series of revelations from our Lord to establish the devotion to His Holy Face.  The Chaplet begins with The Golden Arrow Prayer. There is a separate prayer for each of the five beads, for the wounds of our Lord. One of the prayers is: Holy is the Face of God.

39-Bead Little Chaplet of the Holy Face

When we pray The Little Chaplet (or Little Rosary) of the Holy Face of Jesus, we honour His suffering and pray with sorrow for our sins. It has 33 grouped beads that represent His life on earth. The 5 groups of beads are for the 5 senses. We honour the wounds He endured in His Holy Face.  Sister Marie de Saint-Pierre composed the Little Chaplet of the Holy Face on November 15, 1843.
