There is a distinct difference in quality across the market. Many commercially manufactured items claim to be bronze when they are actually just plated with a bronze colour. You can usually identify them by the lower prices. Plated bronze comes in many different shades, but none can imitate the unforgettable sheen of authentic bronze and its gradual patina. Plated parts usually cost less. The thin coating will eventually wear away with use, revealing a dull gray pewter or base metal underneath.

Paired with durable hand-wrapped wire construction, these rosaries are built to last. I make them exclusively with gemstone beads. At about half the cost of sterling silver, solid bronze makes an heirloom-quality rosary more accessible.

The Finishes Explained
Depending on the casting house, raw bronze components leave the studio in one of two ways. Some arrive as straight bronze, featuring a bright, golden-warm sheen that slowly darkens into a natural patina over time. Others arrive pre-antiqued, having undergone an oxidation treatment that highlights details and gives them an instant vintage look right out of the box. Small variations in each signature bronze alloy can also add subtle differences to the finished look.
Natural Buffing
Neither finish affects the metal’s durability or longevity—both are 100% solid bronze. Whether your rosary starts with a pre-antiqued patina or a bright raw polish, daily prayer will naturally buff the high-touch surfaces to a soft shine while allowing the deeper grooves to hold onto their rich contrast.
A Note on Availability
A note on availability: Our primary ongoing supplier creates pre-antiqued parts. Following the passing of our long-time raw bronze caster, those specific parts can no longer be remade. We still carry a wonderful stock of these original plain bronze components, but quantities for each style are limited to what remains in our studio collection.
