Beads are often the first thing you notice when shopping for rosaries, chaplets, or other types of prayer beads. But more than their visual appeal, their material, size, and shape dictate design possibilities, making them a foundational choice.

How Beads Influence Designs
Matching Beads & Designs
Designs work best when the beads are suited to the design. The size and shape work together with the Crucifix and center. However, the design potential is limited by the size of the bead holes; they need to be the optimal size for the wire or cording material. For example, 550 Paracord requires large-hole beads while 95 Paracord works well with standard wood bead hole sizes. If the holes are too large, the wire has to be extra stiff, and the loops have to be large enough to secure the beads, making it a less-than-ideal design. Gemstone and glass beads have holes that will fit over standard wire or Micro Paracord.
Hand-selected
For the finished rosary or chaplet to have the quality we aim for, the beads must be free of flaws. Each bead is hand-selected to avoid surface nicks, reduced clarity, or bubbles near the surface of glass beads which create weak spots.
The Look & Feel of Beads
Aesthetics are more than basic colour matching. The texture, weight, and overall look are key. High-grade crystal adds brilliant optical clarity. The understated, organic look of natural wood or stone might be your preference. Or you may prefer the soft or vibrant colours of glass beads. A simple Glow-in-the-dark rosary might be just the thing for a bedtime rosary. You may prefer a rare, unique set of beads by your favourite chair. The beads should make the rosary feel so comfortable for prayer that holding them makes you long to pray.

Hole size dictates your design potential. Thicker cording like 550 Paracord requires large-hole beads, while standard hole sizes work smoothly with wire or Micro Paracord.
Beads without surface nicks, reduced optical clarity, rough drill edges or glass bubbles (which create weak spots) are best.
