Is Choosing a Rosary by Its Beads a Good Idea?

Choosing a rosary by its beads is like judging a book by its cover. It doesn’t tell the whole story. Four factors reveal its intrinsic value.
Choosing a Rosary: 4 Factors
1. Comfort
The look of the rosary can captivate our attention, but its comfort makes a rosary the one we choose for prayer. Cord rosaries should be well-spaced to slide enough for your finger size. Wire rosaries should have enough space to grasp the beads.
2. Durability
Another factor is the strength of the rosary parts. In general, handmade rosaries will outlast mass-produced ones. Consider the quality of the material. For example, American-made Paracord is sturdier than other varieties. Rosary loops with sturdy wire will hold their shape well. Jump rings that don’t bend easily with your fingers will support the weight of the rosary.
3. Artisan Skill
The skill of the artisan is key. A rosary will handle the movements of praying the beads if the loops are smooth and round. Long, narrow, banana-shaped loops will kink. Nicks or marks in the wire from the pliers weaken the wire. Cord rosaries should have firm, sealed knots that won’t fray.
4. Overall Appearance
The overall appearance of a rosary is more than its colour. It will look best if it is symmetrical and the decades line up. The loops should be the same size on both sides of the beads.
Summary
A well-made rosary has the beads you love with the comfort and reliability you can count on for years of prayer.
