More Details

The Mary Undoer of Knots Chaplet has Euro Wood beads and knotted twine.  The European, nontoxic, designer-quality wood beads are stained and sealed for colour durability.

It begins with a prayer for her intercession and continues with more familiar ones. There are lots of extra knots on the chaplet that represent our life’s difficulties. Our Blessed Mother helps us untangle the knots or struggles in our lives. The image on the medal looks like the original one that Pope Francis first saw in Germany.  Her feast day is September 28th.

Mary, Undoer of Knots

Although the devotion originated in the second century, it gained popularity much later. In 1612, a husband with marriage troubles turned to a priest for help. The priest encouraged him to entrust his situation to Mary, Untier of Knots. It worked. In gratitude, their grandson commissioned the well-known painting. Johann Georg Schmidttner painted her image circa 1700.

Father Bergoglio (Pope Francis) discovered her image while studying in Germany. A nun he met there sent him a Christmas card with a picture of Mary, Undoer of Knots. He liked the devotion so much that he began sharing it with his parishioners in Buenos Aires. Artists in Argentina painted replicas of her image as the devotion spread. He explained it in a homily:

We all have knots or deficiencies in our hearts and we go through difficulties. God, our good Father, who distributes his grace to all of his children, wants us to entrust to her the knots of our sins, the tangles of our miseries that prevent us from uniting ourselves with God, to allow her to untie them, and bring us to her son Jesus.

Since then, Pope Francis has spread the devotion worldwide. He has mentioned her several times. On May 31, 2021, Pope Francis introduced the rosary prayers with a prayer to ask for her intercession. He prayed for an end to the coronavirus pandemic. Click to view at about 15 minutes.

Tonight we gather before you, our Virgin Mother, as the one who unties knots…

About Our Handmade Chaplets

Packaging

Each chaplet comes with a sturdy prayer card.  It explains which prayers to say on which beads.

Suggestion

It is a good idea to store your chaplets and prayer cards together.  Since chaplets have unique bead groupings and prayers, the prayer card and chaplet need to stay together so that you can continue to use them.
