About the Mysteries of the Rosary
New Layers of Meaning
The Mysteries add new layers of meaning to the prayer of the rosary. They help us walk with Jesus and Mary through the various events of their lives.
Categories
The Rosary Mysteries are divided into four categories: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious.
Each category has five mysteries, the same as the number of rosary decades. (A decade is a group of ten beads). On a traditional rosary, there are five decades for the five mysteries.
The Newest Mysteries (2002)
On October 16, 2002, St. John Paul II added to the rosary mysteries in his Apostolic Letter, Rosarium Virginis Mariae. The Luminous Mysteries reflect on key events during the public ministry of Jesus. He felt that this would make the rosary “more fully a compendium of the Gospel”. (para 19) As a result, he adjusted the days for the mysteries.

CREDITS
The LOGO image of Our Lady of Grace is original artwork by Martin Lariviere in 2009. We have the artist’s permission (my son). It is our exclusive trademark logo image.
A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.
Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.
Carl Heinrich Bloch painted The Resurrection in 1881.
Noel Nicholas Coypel painted a nativity scene circa the 17th Century.
The Transfiguration of Jesus, by Carl Heinrich Bloch, was painted in 1872.
Heinrich Hofmann painted Christ in Gethsemane in 1886.
Guido Reni painted The Assumption of the Virgin Mary on silk circa 1638-1639.
Nicholas Nunez LC shared the photo of the rosary prayers at sunset on Cathopic.
The Baptism of Christ, by Carl Heinrich Bloch, was painted circa 1856-1879.
