Our Lady of the Rosary Novena

Novena to Our Lady of the Rosary

(September 28 - October 7)

Novena to Our Lady of the Rosary

Follow along, for nine days, with novena prayers leading up to the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Novena to Our Lady of the Rosary

Before praying the daily rosary, begin with this prayer.

My dearest Mother Mary, behold me, your child,

in prayer at your feet.

Accept this Holy Rosary, which I offer you

in accordance with your requests at Fatima,

as proof of my tender love for you,

for the intentions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and

in atonement for the offenses committed

against your Immaculate Heart.

(State your intention(s) here…)

I beseech you to present my petition

to your Divine Son.

If you will pray for me,  I cannot be refused.

I know, dearest Mother, that you want me

to seek God’s holy Will concerning my request.

If what I ask for should not be granted,

pray that I may receive that which

will be of greater benefit to my soul.

I offer you this spiritual Bouquet of Roses

because I love you.

I put all my confidence in you,

since your prayers before God are most powerful.

For the greater glory of God

and for the sake of Jesus, your loving Son,

hear and grant my prayer.

Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation. Amen

(Continue with the prayer of the rosary.)

History of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary

On October 7, 1571, there was a battle in the Gulf of Lepanto in Greece. The Rosary Confraternity of Rome was meeting at the Dominican headquarters there. They recited the rosary for the intention of the Christians in battle. After their victory, Pope Pius V dedicated the day as one of thanksgiving to Our Lady of Victory.

Pope Gregory XIII later changed the name to:
The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

The LOGO image of Our Lady of Grace is original artwork by Martin Lariviere in 2009.  We have the artist’s permission (my son). It is our exclusive trademark logo image.

A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.

Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.

One of my favorite paintings by Guido Reni depicts The Virgin at Prayer. The date of this masterpiece is circa 1627.

Bartolome Esteban Murillo painted The Virgin of the Rosary between circa 1675 to 1680.  We chose it for our header image and for part of the novena prayer.

Bernardo Cavallino  painted L’Apparition de la Vierge et de l’Enfant Jesus a Saint-Dominique circa 1640 to 1645.

Carlo Esteban Murillo painted Virgen del Rosario circa 1650 to 1655.

An unidentified artist painted The 1571 Naval Battle of Lepanto circa the late 16th Century.
