As Psalm 143:10 expresses, God put a desire in our hearts to know and follow Him. We explore four tips to help with discerning God’s will.
Discerning God's Will
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good spirit lead me on a level path.
Psalm 143:10
God created us to know and love Him and to follow His will. Yet, how can we know if what we choose is what we want or what God wants?
- First, we can pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance.
- Then we can see if it will work with our circumstances. We may, for example, have family responsibilities.
- Our gifts (talents) can give us another clue. (They are not meant solely for our benefit but to fulfill God’s will in a unique way.)
- Finally, God will also give us the grace of feeling drawn to a decision or a role. It is not temporary energy. When we follow God’s will, joy and serenity will grow within us. It will be a sense of lasting inner peace.
Yet, as Psalm 143 describes, there is no simple way to know God’s will. It is a journey of discovery into a closer relationship with Him. (April 10, 2022)
