HIS WELL-KNOWN MIRACLE
BLESSING OF THE THROATS
Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop, and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(prayer at the blessing of the throats)
Some Thoughts
Our longing to draw closer to God is deeply rooted in our hearts. But, we may struggle when we pray for healing, yet do not experience it. Part of loving God is to pray for the strength to bear the effects of our illness. The other part is trusting in God’s will. We can pray for God to heal us if it is His will.

The LOGO image of Our Lady of Grace is original artwork by Martin Lariviere in 2009. We have the artist’s permission (my son). It is our exclusive trademark logo image.
A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.
Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.
Circa 1760, an anonymous artist painted Saint Blaise at the high altar of Saint Blaise Church in Valff, France. We cropped the original image.
We quoted the traditional blessing of the throats prayer.

IN REVIEW
St. Blaise was a physician in the early 3rd Century. He decided to be in service of God as a physician of souls. He was a bishop and people travelled from a distance to seek physical and spiritual healing. One of his best-known miracles was helping a young child who was either choking on a fishbone or dying of throat disease. He became known as the patron saint of throat illnesses and choking.
St. Blaise was declared a saint pre-Congregation. In other words, a local bishop investigated the proofs of holiness.
His feast day is on February 3rd. The Blessing of the Throats takes place on that day in Catholic churches. The priest says a blessing while holding two crossed candles on either side of the throat.
