BIO OF SAINT GEMMA
The First Feast of Saint Gemma was on April 11, 1941
Saint Gemma (1878-1903) was an Italian mystic known as The Gem of Christ. From a very young age, she loved to pray. She had a love for the poor and helped them in any way she could.
At the age of 16, she became severely ill with spinal meningitis. Her main concern was the trouble she caused her relatives who cared for her. Gemma prayed for the intercession of Venerable Gabriel Possenti. Then, she experienced a cure. However, her continuing poor health prevented her from becoming a nun. She offered this disappointment to God as a sacrifice.
She was also known as Daughter of the Passion. On June 8, 1899, Gemma experienced the signs of the stigmata for the first time. She also experienced spiritual ecstasy and levitated. Pope Pius XI beatified her on May 14, 1933, and Pope Pius XII canonized her on May 2, 1940.
To love Jesus more, love more like Jesus.
St. Gemma Galgani
Some Thoughts
Jesus spent time in prayer. He treated everyone with love and respect. It isn’t always easy for us to follow His example. People can hurt our feelings, take advantage of our kindness, or even refuse our help. Yet, we can trust God to help us learn to love better. When we ask for the grace to be more like Him, Jesus will guide us and strengthen us.
