St. Joseph Novena: March 10-19 & April 22-May 1

A novena is a way to pray for a specific need or concern with the help of a saint’s prayers.  We pray daily for the nine days leading up to a feast day or a solemnity.

The Benefits of Praying Novenas

Self-Discipline

We learn to have a prayer routine and better self-discipline by saying novena prayers every day for nine days. Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not lose heart. (Luke 18:1)

More Meaningful

Novenas help us prepare for Feast days and solemnities so that they have greater meaning for us.

Trusting in God

As we focus on a specific prayer intention, we learn to trust that God knows what is best for us.

Praying a novena reminds us how much we rely on God’s love. He answers our prayers in the way that is best for us.

Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.

Among his many paintings of the Holy Family by Bartolome Esteban Murillo, we were happy to choose this one as our featured image. He painted it circa 1668 to 1670.

One of my favorite paintings by Guido Reni depicts The Virgin at Prayer. The date of this masterpiece is circa 1627.

Fabio Losada shared the photo of the man praying at sunset on Cathopic.
