BIO OF SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES

The First Feast of St. Martin was on November 3, 1962

Saint Martin de Porres (Juan Maartin de Porres Velasquez) (1579-1639) was born in Lima, Peru. He was of mixed Spanish and African race, which was considered a stigma at the time. The Dominicans made an exception to accept a mixed-race individual into the order. St. Martin de Porres became a lay brother and helped care for the sick. Known as an apostle of charity, he was also devoted to the Eucharist, serving the poor, and constant prayer. Pope Gregory XVI beatified him on October 29, 1837.  Pope John XXIII canonized him on May 6, 1962.

Everything, even sweeping, scraping vegetables, weeding a garden, and waiting on the sick, could be a prayer if offered to God.

Some Thoughts

What does it mean to offer it up? When we make an effort to do the little helpful things for others, it is kindness. It is a gift when we do it patiently and lovingly. When we offer it to God in thanksgiving and with the needs of others in our hearts, it is a prayer.

About Our Handmade Chaplets

Packaging

Each chaplet comes with a sturdy prayer card.  It explains which prayers to say on which beads.

Suggestion

It is a good idea to store your chaplets and prayer cards together.  Since chaplets have unique bead groupings and prayers, the prayer card and chaplet need to stay together so that you can continue to use them.
