The Saint Philomena Cord Bracelet has classic red and white nylon cord in a tight weave with two knots. The knots represent her virginity and martyrdom. Each strand has an 85-pound resistance strength. You can hand-wash it or put it in the washing machine (inside a washable laundry bag).
You may want to shorten your bracelet. Measure the bracelet over the largest part of your hand to make sure it will fit over it. Move the end knots or add a knot. Double-check if it will still fit over your hand before cutting. Trim the ends, then melt or glue the cord tips.
About the Devotion
Saint Jean Vianney (The Cure of Ars) suggested the pious practice of wearing the Cord of St. Philomena. When we pray for her protection, we can count on her intercession. When we wear it in her honour, we have her aid for defense against impurity, lack of faith, and sickness.
It is an official Catholic devotion approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1893. There are special graces (indulgences) attached to it. A priest can give it a formal blessing, as found in the Roman Ritual. Her feast day is August 11th.
