Holy Spirit Novena: Second Day

SATURDAY

Begin with the Sign of the Cross.

Holy Fear

The gift of Holy Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of hell but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenly Father.
Fear is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God.

They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in His sight will sanctify their souls. (Sirach 2:20)
Novena to the Holy Spirit

Prayer

Come, O blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart, that I may set you, my Lord and God, before my face forever, help me to shun all things that can offend You, and make me worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Your Divine Majesty in heaven, where You live and reign in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God world without end. Amen.

Tip

You can start on the second bead of a rosary decade to count the final prayers.

  • Our Father
  • Hail Mary
  • Glory Be (7 times)

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,  hallowed be Thy name;  Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

VERSION 1:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.  Blessed art thou among* women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

*or “amongst”

VERSION 2:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.  Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

CREDITS

The LOGO image of Our Lady of Grace is original artwork by Martin Lariviere, 2009, and used with the artist’s permission (my son). It is our exclusive trademark logo image.

A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.

Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.

Juan Bautista Maino painted a scene from Pentecost circa 1615 to 1620.

We cropped a Pompeo Batoni painting of the Holy Spirit from circa 1740 to 1743.
