Jesus Takes Up His Cross
We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You (or: We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You.)
BECAUSE BY YOUR HOLY CROSS, YOU HAVE REDEEMED THE WORLD.
A Reading from the Gospel According to John
(John 19: 1-6)
Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple robe; they came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands. Pilate went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing him out to you, that you may know that I find no crime in him.” So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!” When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no crime in him.”
Jesus: (celebrant reads)
Do not be afraid of sufferings; I am with you (151). The more you will come to love suffering, the purer your love for Me will be (279).
St. Faustina: (all read)
Jesus, I thank You for the little daily crosses, for opposition to my endeavors, for the hardships of communal life, for the misinterpretation of my intentions, for humiliations at the hands of others, for the harsh way in which we are treated, for false suspicions, for poor health and loss of strength, for self-denial, for dying to myself, for lack of recognition in everything, for the upsetting of all my plans (343).

Merciful Jesus, teach me to value life’s toil, sicknesses, and every suffering, and with love to carry my daily crosses.
