The Way of the Cross

STATION 6: Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You (or: We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You.)

BECAUSE BY YOUR HOLY CROSS, YOU HAVE REDEEMED THE WORLD.

Stations of the Cross, 6th Station, Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

A Reading from the Gospel According to Matthew

(Matthew 25: 37-40)

Then the righteous will say to him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you something to eat, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison and come to visit you?”  And the King will answer, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brethren of mine, you did for me.”

- moment of silence -

V. Lord Jesus, Crucified.

R. HAVE MERCY ON US.

Stabat Mater

Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,
She beheld her tender Child,
All with bloody scourges rent.

Murillo painted La Dolorosa circa 1660 to 1670.

CREDITS

The LOGO image of Our Lady of Grace is original artwork by Martin Lariviere in 2009. We have the artist’s permission (my son). It is our exclusive trademark logo image.

A beautifully photographed sky by Donald Tong inspired the website’s colour scheme. Cropped portions of it are the background for the footer Bible verse. He shared it as a free download on pexels.com.

Raphael painted The Sistine Madonna circa (1513-1514). We made circular cut-outs from the original image.

Mattia Preti painted Saint Veronica with the Veil circa 1655 to 1660.

We chose a Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo painting of one of the falls of Jesus.  It is oil on canvas and located in the Church of San Polo in Venice.  He painted it from 1745 to 1749.

Carlo Esteban Murillo painted La Dolorosa circa 1660-1670.

The Bible passages are from the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition.
