Come Holy Spirit Prayer
You can find the words to the Come, Holy Spirit prayer (Latin: Veni, Sancte Spiritus) here.
Come, Holy Spirit Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
V. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of Your faithful, grant that by that same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation through Christ our Lord. Amen.
When We Pray It
It is part of the Pentecost liturgy. We can also say this prayer anytime, such as before reading the Bible or for daily guidance. We invite the presence of the Holy Spirit and ask for strength when we say this prayer.
At St. Peter's Basilica in Rome
Artists usually depict the Holy Spirit as a dove. This remarkable work of art is in St. Peter’s Basilica. Near the chair of St. Peter is an ornate stained glass window symbolizing the Holy Spirit. Angels sculpted from bronze surround a 6-foot-wide white dove made of Bohemian glass. Artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini created it circa 1660.
