St. Faustina's Way of the Cross
STATION 10: Jesus is Stripped of His Garments
We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You (or: We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You.)
BECAUSE BY YOUR HOLY CROSS, YOU HAVE REDEEMED THE WORLD.
A Reading from the Gospel According to John
(John 19: 23-24)
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom; so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the scripture,
“They divided my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.”
St Faustina: (all read)
Jesus was suddenly standing before me, stripped of His clothes, His body completely covered with wounds, His eyes flooded with tears and blood, His face disfigured and covered with spittle.
Jesus: (celebrant reads)
The bride must resemble her Betrothed.
St Faustina: (all read)
I understood these words to their very depth. There is no room for doubt here. My likeness to Jesus must be through suffering and humility (268).
All Read:
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Your heart.
Celebrant Reads:
You, who suffered wounds for us,
All Read:
Christ Jesus, have mercy on us.
Stabat Mater
Holy Mother, pierce me through,
In my heart, each wound renew
of my Saviour, Crucified.
