More Details

The Blessed Miguel Pro Chaplet has his last words as part of the prayer. It has white beads to represent his purity and red for his martyrdom. Joseph A. Fiorenza (Bishop of Galveston, Houston) gave it Imprimatur on August 13, 1995. We can pray it like a novena on the days leading up to his feast day (on November 23) or any time. Pope St. John Paul II beatified him on September 25, 1988.

Persecution of the Church

Blessed Miguel Pro was a Mexican Jesuit priest. At the time, priests who criticized the government would face five years in prison. The fine for wearing clerical garb outside of their churches was 500 pesos. Eventually, the Mexican president closed all churches.  Many priests served covertly at the risk of their lives.

Trial & Execution

The president falsely charged Blessed Miguel Pro with attempted assassination and did not let him have a trial. On November 23, 1927, as he walked in front of the firing squad, he blessed the soldiers, knelt, and prayed quietly. Declining a blindfold, he faced them with a Crucifix in one hand and a rosary in the other. He held his arms out in imitation of the crucified Christ and shouted, “May God have mercy on you! May God bless you! Thou knowest that I am innocent! With all my heart, I forgive my enemies!” He raised his arms in imitation of the Crucified Christ and should “Viva Cristo Rey! – Long live Christ the King.”

About Our Handmade Chaplets

Packaging

Each chaplet comes with a sturdy prayer card.  It explains which prayers to say on which beads.

Suggestion

It is a good idea to store your chaplets and prayer cards together.  Since chaplets have unique bead groupings and prayers, the prayer card and chaplet need to stay together so that you can continue to use them.
